The Wilmington-Cape Fear Home Builders Association Land Use Council

The Wilmington-Cape Fear Home Builders Association Land Use Council meets the second Tuesday of every month at 10:30 am at WCFHBA Office.

Who We Are
The Land Use Council is a broad-based coalition of land developers, builders, attorneys, engineers, bankers, real estate agents and brokers, architects, landscape architects, surveyors, planners and allied trade associations -- all working together to achieve common goals. The Council is administered through the Wilmington Cape Fear Home Builders Association and is staffed by the Governmental Affairs staff of BASE.

Our Objectives
The Land Use Councils mission is to promote the development and redevelopment of residential, properties to the public, as well as the elected officials.  The council strives to enhance the market share of our association’s members, resulting in a better product for the consumer. To do this the council has positioned itself as a collective voice in the region for the residential industry, and works on behalf of our members to promote a positive image of our industry.

Two major components of the Land Use Council's objectives are to:

  • Promote sensible market driven regulatory policies and sound land development practices that lead to the creation of safe, affordable, and economically feasible residential development of land for all citizens
  • Promote sound economic, planning, land development and environmental policies and regulatory controls that work to protect the rights of individuals and private property interests, be they home owners or business entities

What We Do
The Land Use Council evaluates and closely monitors important issues for our members that will negatively impact our members' interests and opposes any efforts to further complicate the already complex land development process.  We accomplish this by working closely with the BASE Governmental Affairs staff and their expansive set of coalitions and resources.

What to Expect

Our monthly meetings, educational programs, and networking events are second to none.  Our members say that Land Use Council meetings are the best they attend and are the most productive use of their valuable time. Monthly meetings have focused on specific topics, such as the following just to name a few:

  • Meeting with key legislative leaders to discuss economic growth and other land use initiatives and environmental policies and legislation.
  • State and Federal Wetland Issues ranging from delineations, interpretational concerns, permit certifications, and the ever changing rules and regulations surrounding wetlands.
