Kids Making it began as a volunteer effort by Director Jimmy Pierce in 1994, providing woodworking mentoring programs for at-risk youth.  Their mission is to reduce juvenile delinquency and help all youth served stay in school, graduate, and transition successfully into college or the workplace as responsible adults.  Beginning with hand tools and a temporary space, KMI now boasts a full-fledged shop with power tools and retail store in the Jacobi warehouse in historic downtown Wilmington where our kids sharpen their skills, meet and greet the public, and sell their creations.  We teach job-readiness skills, and through our social worker, provide individual and vocational counseling for our kids and their families.
